Helping Hands Hearts of Gold Foundation

In Washington County everyday:

1 in 5 people go to bed hungry every night.

1 in 10 homes are in foreclosure.

On average three women and a man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every single day.

What does that really mean to you? It means that this can affect someone you care about. It could be someone in your family, a friend, neighbor or a co-worker. The face of homelessness now includes a far greater number of families with children.

The economic recession has impacted the middle class and for the first time they are asking for emergency food boxes to survive. Loss of a job creates huge stress in a family; not knowing if one can pay the bills or keep a roof over their head or provide food for the ones they love most can weigh heavily on a person’s shoulders. These are the basic needs we all have, and we as a community can help those less fortunate to overcome the challenge of the hard times.

Creating Change with

Community Giving

49 percent of households receiving emergency food are families with children.

37 percent of those who ate food from an emergency food box last year were children.

Early childhood hunger and malnutrition can result in permanent irreversible health problems, such as hypertension, diabetes, as well as kidney and heart disease later in life.

One in four women have experienced domestic violence in their lifetime.

Studies suggest that between 3.3-10 million children witness some form of domestic violence.

1 in 12 women and 1 in 45 men will be stalked in their lifetime for an average duration of two years.
